What is Grief-Informed Massage?
In traditional Massage Therapy, there is not often an opportunity to recognize and work with Grief in the body. Although clients may frequently come into contact with their Grief in session, there is not often the space to express or be witnessed in it.
Lynsie created Grief-Informed Massage with the acknowledgement that being a Griever makes everything different: how we walk through the world, how we heal and how touch can feel especially supportive to our grieving bodies.
Grievers need touch, permission and sacred space to be held. In these 90-120 minute sessions, Lynsie meets the Griever where they are. The chance to talk & connect at the beginning of the session informs the massage itself.
When Grievers are able to sense that someone else is with them in their experience, is holding them in their experience, overwhelm and loneliness can subside. The human nervous system is able to sense this co-regulation and support; giving the Griever a felt sense of safety.
Traditional earth-based cultures offered reverence and support to Grieving people. Lynsie imagines and knows that there was touch, food and listening ears offered regularly for those in the village who had experienced the depths of loss.
It is with this ancestral memory in mind that Lynsie offers Grief-Informed-Massage: a sacred, slow, trauma-informed space for you to grieve.
